In SotGA you can enter a number of different kinds of threads to earn Wealth, Fortune, and Fame... and of course to have fun. Here we will give a brief overview of the standards we have for posting. Some of this will be a little redundant from the Rules, but that just means it's that much more important!
There are FIVE main types of RP threads here at SotGA: Open Threads, Closed Threads, Training Threads, PVP Threads, and Event Threads. The type of thread MUST BE LISTED IN THE THREAD TITLE, as indicated below. Please and thank you~
Listed in the thread title as (OPEN) or (CLOSED)
The most common threads you will be in here on SotGA. Open threads are just that - open. Anyone whose character would logically be in that area may enter if they want. If the thread starter wishes, they may list the thread as "Ask First" - Open threads listed this way require you to send the thread starter a PM to ask if your character can join the thread.
Closed Threads are identical to Open Threads, except only the characters listed by the thread starter may post in the thread. These characters should be listed either in the info section of the first post, or at the end of the first post itself somewhere (ideally with @ tags). If you post in a closed thread you are not supposed to be in, your post will be deleted and the staff may have to take action.
Beyond that, these two types of threads can be listed as Freeform or Ordered. Ordered posts are strictly kept to the order of the initial posting round - everyone from the time the first post to the next time the thread starter posts again.
For example: Luffy starts a thread called "Let's Go, Straw Hats!".
Zoro posts second.
Nami posts third.
Usopp posts fourth.
Sanji posts fifth.
Luffy then posts again.
From this point on, all posts must be in this order, and everyone must wait for the previous poster to respond before they are allowed to post again.
Freeform threads are similar, except there is no strict order, the only thing that matters is that everyone in the thread has posted at least once before the thread starter can post again to start the next round of posting, and nobody can post twice in one post round.
We go by post count rather than paragraph or word count here for most threads, but we ask that a post be at least TWO PARAGRAPHS LONG, with those paragraphs being at least THREE SENTENCES. Threads substantially shorter than this may not be counted at the end of the thread.
Typical Open and Closed thread posts earn 1 FORTUNE and 1000 BELI per post, which will be tallied and awarded at the end of the thread.
The rule for posting delays on this site is THREE DAYS. If someone has not given notice of an absence and misses posting for three days, they may be skipped until the next post round or by whoever is next in line. If they come back before the next post round they may sneak a post in, but try not to make a habit of that in Ordered threads.
Listed in the thread title as (PVP)
PVP threads are less a specific type and more a modified type of Closed Thread, and are always Ordered style. PVP threads are most commonly used when Bounty Hunters or Marines want to go after specific Pirates. PVP threads must be agreed upon by everyone in the thread, and in general it is recommended everyone generally plan the thread in advance.
There is one exception to this: If a Pirate or Revolutionary continues to rack up a high bounty without any significant Marine or Bounty Hunter presence in their threads (such as relevant NPCs), the staff may require them to appear in a GMed PVP thread before they are allowed to start any new threads of their own, where either the staff will narrate Marines or Bounty Hunters going after them, or nominate existing Marine or BH characters to do so instead. This is for the sake of realism - SotGA is set in a scenario where the Marines and Bounty Hunters are more prominent than in the standard
However, PVP threads have real consequences, and thus they earn greater rewards:
- ALL FORTUNE GAINS IN A PVP THREAD ARE DOUBLED, FOR ALL CHARACTERS INVOLVED.
- Pirates earn 10x normal Beli for participating in such threads, or receive special Treasure equivalent to the Beli benefit (depending on the content of the thread).
- Bounty Hunters receive the Bounties of all captured Pirates or Revolutionaries in the thread. This is a single payout if multiple Bounty Hunters work together to take down a bounty - it is not paid to each character, it is divided evenly.
- Marines and Revolutionaries receive special Commendations in the form of items, Fame, or even rank and prestige in their organizations. They tend to be less in it for the money, so they won't get the same level of payout as Pirates or Bounty Hunters do.
Listed in the thread title as (TRAINING)
Training threads are special solo threads where a player may earn Fortune, Fame, and/or Beli based on the content and quality of their writing. They may also be used to learn techniques at no cost, but only techniques that have already been approved, and are one level lower than the highest available to the character. Same goes for upgrades - you can get a free tech upgrade only up to one less than your highest available level.
These threads are based on word and paragraph count, but are also graded based on the quality of writing and more importantly the story they tell. For this reason, the grading rubric for them will be kept secret - just tell your best story!
Regardless, a character cannot earn more than 100 Fortune from Training Threads in a single real-world month. They may, however, still train for techniques.
Listed in the thread title as (EVENT)
Event Threads are special threads that are run by the staff, either as site-wide crossovers or as custom plots and stories involving certain characters. The latter are often required for certain rare advancements such as obtaining Devil Fruits or rare weapons such as Meito, as well as for unlocking abilities like Haki or Life Return.
Event threads can be of any type and may have extra rules, all of which will be made clear in the start of the thread. Pay attention!
