First off, here is the new character Application template. Copy the code into a new thread in this forum, but then come back here and scroll down, we will explain everything in detail right afterwards.
LETS BREAK IT DOWN.
General Character Creation Basics:
1) AFFILIATIONS Creation for all four affiliations is basically the same, but we will outline the differences here. The first difference is their notoriety.
- Pirates and Revolutionaries are criminals, and thus will earn a Bounty on their heads for their criminal actions. Bounties are seen in the world as a good way to judge people's strength, so as a starting Pirate or Revolutionary in the Blues you will not yet have a bounty. Which is probably for the best.
- Revolutionaries may also have ranks in addition to bounties, but until you do something worthy of an actual title, your rank is "Field Agent" and you don't even need to list it.
- Bounty Hunters also keep track of bounties, but they go after them and are legally sanctioned by the Marines to do so. As a result, Bounty Hunters keep track of their highest Claimed bounty. As a starting Bounty Hunter in the Blues, you cannot have collected a bounty higher than 50,000 Beli. 50,000 represents small-time threats not really significant enough for the Marines to devote time to, such as thieves. It's also fine to play a brand new hunter who hasn't yet caught anyone.
- Marines list their Rank instead of their Bounty, as they are The Law and not criminals. Consult This Page for information on Marine Ranks. As a starting Marine in the Blues, you are some form of infantry - the highest rank a Marine character can be is a Warrant Officer. All starting Marines should list where they are currently deployed, or they may be working under another higher-ranking Marine, either an NPC or another PC. If you plan on working under another PC, plan with them in advance. Your rank will increase based on your actions in threads, and any new benefits of higher rank will be given out when you reach those ranks. PVP threads almost always increase rank.
- If you wish to play a member of the secretive Cipher Pol group, you start as a member of CP-1. Like with Marine rank, you will increase in rank and privilege based on your actions in threads, and PVP threads will almost always increase rank.
That's it! Everything past that is the same regardless of what your character is affiliated with.
2) Face and Voice Claims: While we don't require face claims here on SotGA, they are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED. You may use images from any existing anime or manga, but avoid using characters actually from One Piece. You may also use any illustration from any other fictional source, but if it is an original image, be sure to credit the artist and be sure you have permission to use it. Most of the staff here at SotGA are at least somewhat career artists, and we value the rights of artists very strongly.
Voice claims are entirely optional, as this is a text forum and doesn't actually need voices. However, since even Oda writes One Piece with characters having specific voices in mind, that option is there for you too. You may use any character or voice actor from any form of media, and we would appreciate a youtube or some other kind of media link to explain it.
Now, onto the nitty-gritty...
3) STARTING CHARACTER MECHANICS:
Starting characters in SotGA begin with the following stuff:
- WEALTH: 0 or 5000 Beli (see below)
- FORTUNE: 0 FP
- FAME: 0 Fame
- Stats: Starting characters start with 1 in each of the five Stats, and 5 points to distribute among them. These points cannot be banked and if not spent, are lost. So spend them!
Profession Points: 5 PP. This may be spent on Professions or Skills & Abilities as you like. Or you can spend them on a 1-for-1 basis as additional stat points. Or, you can simply save them, Profession Points can always be banked for later.
- Professions: A character can only have two professions, and professions cap at Level 5. They must be purchased with Profession Points. If you take the Jack Of All Trades ability, you may unstrike the third profession slot.
- Techniques: A character who starts with at least one Profession begins with TWO free Techniques. One technique must be Level 1, while the other may be equal to the highest Profession Level you have (usually 2). If you only have one Level 1 Profession, both free techniques are Level 1. IF YOU DO NOT BEGIN WITH A PROFESSION, YOU DO NOT BEGIN WITH ANY TECHNIQUES.
- Basic Equipment: A starting character begins with two Basic Basic. These are very low quality and fall under the category of what qualifies as a Total Level 3 Weapon or Armor. A character who wishes to begin with no items instead gets 5000 Beli. In this case, you may spend your starting Beli on items over in The Shop.
4) Finishing Touches: Character histories and backstories. We look at these as much as you summarizing the character as our way of judging your writing ability, so be as detailed and awesome as you can. As of now, characters can only start in one of the four Blue Seas, however your character may come from the first half of the Grand Line if you want (Fishman Island counts too). We currently do not allow characters originating from the New World.
Things to keep in mind:
- It has been 20 Years since the Summit War, also known as the War Of The Best. The events of the series up until that point are considered Canon... however, at the Summit War Luffy was killed with Ace, and the Strawhats, as far as history has told, are all long gone. Nearly everyone who sided with Luffy in the Summit War was killed or captured, mostly the former. The world is a much more Marine-focused place nowadays, and many believe the Golden Age of Piracy is basically over.
- Most named characters from the main One Piece series are either dead or gone, and none of them will be showing up in SotGA - this is why we allowed all Devil Fruits for play. You may not play as any character from the series, nor can you play any direct relatives of any named characters from the One Piece series. However, older characters may remember the actions of the Strawhats in their lifetime, and we will allow older characters who have met or encountered characters from the series in their backstories, however we will be VERY PICKY about whether or not such characters will be allowed. A good rule of thumb is what we call the Bartolomeo Rule: you can totally play a Strawhat fanboy, but the chances of you ACTUALLY having met them is slim to none.
- Lastly... have FUN! Playing a loner who doesn't talk with people usually won't get you into many threads, but if you think that will be fun for you, all the power to you. We recommend you play outgoing upbeat characters who you can have fun with in any situation... 'cause chances are, in Sunset on the Golden Age, things are bound to get dark eventually...

Weapons & Equipment:
List any items your character owns and carries with them regularly, however works for you, so long as we can understand it. Starting characters begin with two Basic Items, details can be found below. As a general rule, though basic items mostly include single cheap weapons such as iron swords, wooden clubs, or pistols.
Hometown: List the sea and island. You can also list a specific town if an island has multiple towns.
Character History: 3+ Paragraphs about your characters origin, history, and any major events that happened to them before now. Be as thorough and detailed as you like, we have no problem reading long backstories, as this is our way to judge your writing style.
Remember, starting Pirates and Revolutionaries cannot have a bounty, starting Bounty Hunters cannot have collected a bounty higher than 50,000 Beli, and Marines cannot have a Rank higher than Warrant Officer.
[div align="center"]~ ~ ~[/div]
Rewards & Edits:
THIS IS IMPORTANT. List ALL thread rewards and edits made to your character profile, including the date you made the changes, as well as links to the completed threads in which you gained the rewards or approved technique/item threads. We are running on an honor system here, even though we're playing pirates and criminals, and if we find edits being made without permission or reason, the Staff WILL take action against you. Don't be that guy!
Use the following format:
- Month/Day/Year - (Explanation of reward or edit) - (Link to post/thread where rewards were gained or tech/item was approved)
Thread Chronology:
List the names of RP threads your character is in, and link to them. No specific format otherwise, as long as it makes sense.
Exact dates aren't important, what's important is the order in which they took place. It makes no sense for your character to be using knowledge or items gained in one thread, in a thread that takes place before that one. This is as much for your benefit as ours, please keep track of them.
